Hmm.... I have not been at Denison dam for numbers of year now. Do they still allow access to under the Denison dam? I looked at Google and it says the road is close. Is that not true? The road is open and you can fish below the dam.

Went to Denison Dam on Saturday morning and as I began to get my waders on after preparing my kayak the siren went off, very surprised. Entered the water at high tide and tried to fish the edge of the fast water with no luck.Tried the point at the bottom of the sand bay from the bank no joy.Began to move to the Dam wall and the generating stopped. Heard the siren going again so quickly paddled to the sand bay and got out the kayak.I was told the siren signaled generation was over. Moved up to the Dam on the kayak and caught two small stripers and was towed around with a big drum foul hooked in the dorsal fin. Did not land it with no landing net. Then a east wind with drizzle blew in. Decided to pack it in.

Sounds like an eventful morning even though the high water probably didn't do you any favors. I believe myself and my two brothers are going to head up there in the morning.

Wow Linecaster, sounds like you had quite the morning! I would have figured the timing would have been good with the generating just finishing up and all. Goes to show that fish logic doesn't always work, lol.

My biggest problem is not being able to get out there often enough to get to know the water.

Was really slow today. One of my brothers caught two nice spotted bass about 10:30 a.m. on a half and half streamer. The only other fish we caught was a buffalo that hit my other brother's chatterbait about 2 p.m. Still, it was a beautiful day to be out fishing.

Getting to know the water just takes time Linecaster! Fortunately you aren't too far away to make those trips! By the way, as soon as you think you got it figured it, it will all change again, LOL! I have been humbled this fall and winter on the Brazos below PK. Sounds like Denison is seeing the same type of fishing per your report and McKinneyLonghorn. McKinneyLonghorn, sounds like you still had a great day with your brother; making memories buddy!

Fishing is fishing I guess, just keep trying, time is only available to some, if the fly is not in the water, no fish.Hopefully this weekend or Monday.

Well Fly Fish Fanatic. I am going to embarrass myself. Nick and I headed out to PK Sunday morning (no church service), with a surf rod and ultra light spinning reel. The idea was to hit the 16 bridge to catch some bluegill, which we did manage to catch a couple; then head up to the first pool under the dam and chunk live bait towards the dam. Got skunked on the big striper! Nick had one hit and that's it. The screwy thing was that the two guys standing to our right were casting about 60 feet to the right of us towards the two lower out-flow pipes and caught several nice fish. We fished at a 6 foot depth and come to find out they were around 3 foot depth; not sure if that made a difference or not. Overall, learned some important lessons from the trip, so we should have better luck next time!

thank you McKinneyLonghorn. Can anyone fish in the pocket near the base of the dam when the water is not released?
